Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to examine the relationship between social appearance anxiety, body image, and assertiveness levels among high school students. The findings indicated that social appearance anxiety had a strong and negative impact on body image. In particular, overweight and obese students exhibited higher levels of social appearance anxiety and body dissatisfaction. It was also observed that as grade level increased, students developed a more positive perception of their body image. Regarding assertiveness, female students had significantly higher assertiveness scores than male students, particularly in the ability to say no and express emotions. Additionally, assertiveness levels increased with grade level, indicating that older students demonstrated greater social confidence. However, body nass index (BMI) was not found to have a significant effect on assertiveness levels. Although physical activity did not have a direct and significant impact on social appearance anxiety or body image, students who engaged in physical activity exhibited higher assertiveness levels. This suggests that regular physical activity may contribute to improved social skills and self-confidence. In conclusion, this study highlights the complex relationships between adolescents' body image, social anxiety, and assertiveness levels, as well as the individual differences influencing these variables. Based on these findings, it is recommended that awareness programs aimed at fostering a positive body image, psychological support mechanisms to reduce social anxiety, and social education programs to enhance assertiveness skills be implemented for adolescents.
