Özet (EN)
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between digital game addiction and motivation to participate in physical activity in high school students. The research was carried out with the voluntary participation of 682 students selected by simple-random sampling from 9840 high school students in Bingöl. Personal information form, digital game addiction scale and physical activity participation motivation scale were used as data collection tools in the study. IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) statistical package program was used to analyze the data. In the analysis of the data, independent samples t-test was used to compare paired groups, One-Way ANOVA analysis was used to compare more than two groups, and Pearson Correlation analysis was used to determine the direction of the relationship between variables. According to the findings, it was determined that male students' digital game addiction levels were significantly higher than female students. It has been observed that students between the ages of 13-15 have higher motivation to participate in physical activity. It has been determined that individual reasons are more dominant in the motivation of students who do sports to participate in physical activity. It was determined that the digital game addiction levels of students who use smartphones, computers or tablets for 7 hours or more per day are significantly higher. In addition, it was observed that there was a positive significant relationship between the digital game addiction dimension and the total score of motivation to participate in physical activity, environmental reasons and reasonlessness sub-dimensions. As a result, it was determined that male high school students have high levels of digital game addiction. It has been observed that the reasons for participation in physical activity of individuals who do sports regularly are based on personal factors. Additionally, it has been determined that students who play digital games for more than 7 hours a day have high addiction levels. It was concluded that as the level of digital game addiction increases, motivation to participate in physical activity may increase. Therefore, it may be recommended to play digital games that encourage physical activity.
