The factors which effect reading habits and interests of high school students

This research has been made in order to prove what elements that influence 9, 10, 11 and 12 grade students' reading habits and also which element has more importance. This the source study for the future researches and teachers that proves whether or not 9, 10, 11, 12 grade students' level of reading habits depending upon sexuality, economic condition of family and educational level of parents. In this research which aims to analyze and evaluate of high school students' reading habits "screening model" has been used. Within the frame of screening model, in this research two questionnaire called "sacel of reading interest" and "finding the factors that affect high school students' reading interests and reading habits" has been used in order to prove high school students' level of reading interests and reading habits, also the factors which affect them. Statistical universe of this research is public high school students. Finite population is public high school students in Trabzon year 2012-2013. The research sample of high school in the center of Trabzon selected by random sampling methods comprise four different types of high school. This sample Trabzon Anatolian Imam and Preacher High School, Legal Anatolian High School, Erdoğdu High School, 50th Technical Industrial Vocational High School consists of students selected from According to the research results; sexuality, high school type, educational level of mother, profession of mother have something to do with reading interest and reading habits. On the other hand class level of student, profession of father, educational level of father have nothing to do with reading interest and reading habits. In accordance with results we have made suggestions to the families, educational establishments and researchers. Key Words: High School Student, Reading, Reading Habit, Reading Interest.
