Investigation of the relationship between high school students' social media addiction and anxiety, stress and depressive symptoms in terms of various variables

Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to examine the relationship between social media addiction and anxiety, stress and depressive symptoms in terms of various variables (gender, school type, grade level). In the research, the relational scanning model from the general scanning subheading of survey research, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. The sample of the research was 9.10.11 from Religious High School, Anatolian High School, Social Science High School, Sports High School, Vocational High School, Science High School and Fine Arts High School in the central districts of Erzurum province in the 2022-2023 Academic Year. It consists of a total of 564 students, 266 girls and 298 boys, attending the 12th and 12th grades. Personal information form, Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-42) and Social Media Addiction Scale (SMBÖ) were used as data collection tools in the study. Correlation analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between social media addiction and anxiety, stress and depressive symptoms. Factorial ANOVA was conducted to examine the relationship between social media addiction, anxiety, stress and depressive symptoms and various variables (gender, school type, grade level). As a result of the research; It was concluded that there is a moderately significant and positive relationship between social media addiction and anxiety, stress and depressive symptoms. It was concluded that there is no significant difference between social media addiction and gender and school type, but there is a significant difference between grade level. It was concluded that 10th grade students' social media addictions were significantly higher than 9th grade students. Likewise, it was concluded that 10th grade students' social media addictions were significantly higher than 12th grade students. It was concluded that there was no significant difference between anxiety and gender and grade level, but there was a significant difference between school type. It was concluded that the anxiety levels of Anatolian High School students were significantly higher than the Social Sciences High School students. It was concluded that the anxiety levels of Fine Arts High School students were significantly higher than Social Sciences High School students. Likewise, it was concluded that the anxiety levels of Fine Arts High school students were significantly higher than Science High School students. It was concluded that there is no significant difference between stress and grade level, but there is a significant difference between gender and school type. It was concluded that the stress levels of female students were significantly higher than male students. It was concluded that the stress levels of Fine Arts High School students were significantly higher than Relıgıous High school students. Likewise, it was concluded that the stress levels of Fine Arts High School students were significantly higher than Science High School students. It was concluded that there is no significant difference between depression and gender and grade level, but there is a significant difference between school type. It was concluded that the depression levels of Fine Arts High School students were significantly higher than Science High School students.
