The relationship between high school students' gender perceptions and their attitudes towards violence

This master's thesis was conducted to examine the gender perceptions of high school students and their attitudes towards violence. The sample of the the study is based on 786 high school students from various high schools in Ordu. Adolescents' Attitudes Towards Violence Scale and Gender Perception Scale Adolescent Form were used in the data collection process. SPSS 25.0 package program was used in data analysis. Sample T-Test, Pearson Correlation Test and Simple Linear Regression tests were used in the data analysis process. The findings of the study showed that high school students' gender perceptions had a significant effect on their violence tendencies. According to the research, traditional gender perception is a statistically significant and positive predictor of attitude towards violence (= .57 t(1,785) = 19.581, p < .01), whereas egalitarian gender perception is a statistically significant and negative predictor of attitude towards violence. (= -.41 t(1.785) = - 12,677, p < .01). The research findings were discussed within the framework of the literature, and suggestions were made to researchers, parents and teachers according to the results obtained.
