A phenomenological study on gender perceptions of high school teachers: A case of Van Erciş

Abstract (EN)

In this study which is based on the importance of gender equality in education, the research of whether the perception of gender that high school teachers have change due to their experience and sex and if so, what are the similarities and differences among them is made. In section 1 the difference between sex and gender is indicated, how gender roles are imposed in families and through language is shared, the role of teachers in education and the concept of gender in both education and education materials are discussed. In section 2, the method of the study, feminist point of view, the aim of the qualitative research methods and the content of the interview questions are shared. In the research, interviews are made thoroughly with 22 teachers in total, 11 females and 11 males all of whom are working/worked in Van city. Teachers are asked questions about the topics "Family, Educational Background, School in Terms of Profession, Material Evaluation, School in Terms of Student Studies, Parent Involvement". As a result of this study, it is determined that the female teachers who have less than 2years of experience in the field have more sexist point of view than the female teachers who have more than 5 years of experience. The teachers who have more than 5 years of experience are relatively more sexist than the teachers who have less than 2 years of experience. The male teachers are relatively more sexist than the female teachers.
