The effect of high school final students' social media use purpose on entrepreneurship intention

It is important to know the effects of social media and its usage purposes on the entrepreneurship perceptions and intentions of young people. The aim of this thesis is to reveal the effects of high school senior students' social media usage and purposes on their entrepreneurial intentions. For this purpose, 6 official high schools were randomly selected among high schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education operating in the Sultanbeyli district of Istanbul province in the second semester of the 2022-2023 academic year as the universe of this research, and 600 senior students studying in these high schools constituted the population of the research. The sample of the study consisted of 350 randomly selected students among these students. The data of the research were collected by conducting a face-to-face survey, but 320 surveys were included in the study due to missing or incorrect information in 30 surveys. Regression, correlation and variance tests were applied to analyze the obtained data. As a result of the analysis, it was observed that social media usage purposes had a significant and positive effect on entrepreneurial intention. In addition, it has been observed that the sub-dimensions of social media usage purposes, social interaction-communication, and recognition have a positive and significant effect on entrepreneurial intention. Finally, it was observed that the entrepreneurship perceptions of the students studying in Anatolian high school among the students participating in the research were lower than those studying in other types of high schools participating in the research.
