Abstract (EN)

Logistics is a term which comes from Latin and was first used in the army as a basicterm meaning kind of accommodation for troops. Logistics, as an army term, is also used insuch meaning as the transportation of army troops and equipments, and the organization oftheir activities. It doesn?t only mean transportation but, in fact means delivery of everynecessary thing to the troops, and to this delivery accurately, punctually and under desiredcircumstances.Logistics in business was started to discussed in the 1960?s and 70?s; moreover, itbecame the focus point in the 1980?s. Its effect on the activities of companies increased in the1990 since 2000, when healthy, flexible and effective supply and moral chains emerged,logistics has had an important place in the success of the companies and in describing theopposite circumstances.Stock Control makes up an important study field in logistics management. Its aims areto keep the production at the desired level, to carry out the delivery and sale activities with thepre-determined numbers, and to keep the most economical goods in terms of time andquantity. Stock Control means providing with the necessities, and carrying out the vitalactivities so as to balance the necessities and the goods to be purchased.In the first chapter of the paper, the description, historical background, importance,aims, major activities of logistics, and its relation with other company activities and logisticsmanagement tendencies are presented. In the second chapter the terms ?stock? and ?stockmanagement?, the classification of stock, the reasons of keeping stock, the aims of stockcontrol and its importance, the methods of stock control, stock costs, stock evaluationmethods, the use of computer in stock management are presented. The third chapter iscomprised of stock control models.In the 4th chapter the glass sector is described and the application of Silver-MealMethod, in art Craft, a glass production company is presented.
