Abstract (EN)

In this study, one of the most important contested topics at the political level in the Arab world will be analayzed, where racist laws and policies towards Palestinian refugees in Lebanon will be investigated by narrating the historical and political events. The discriminatory policies that Palestinian refugees are subjected to in Lebanon have been shaped by events that have developed since the first years, when Palestinian refugees settled in Lebanon. The settlement of Palestinian refugees - who had to flee the war, due to ethnic and sectarian concerns, caused Palestinian refugees to be seen as a threat to the security and stability of the country in Lebanese political arena. All Palestinian refugees in Lebanon have been accepted as "foreigners" along with the decision taken in 1962, and this situation has become the main reason of the deterioration of the legal status and living conditions of Palestinian refugees. Along with some enactment, Palestinian refugees were defined as those who are debarred of basic and social rights such as the right to own property, travel and work. This thesis firstly discusses the effect of the Lebanese political authorities' negative attitude towards the permanent settlement of Palestinian refugees in the country and the historical incidents in the region that shaped the discrimination policies against Palestinian refugees. The historical process has been shaped associated with the internal circumstances of Lebanon and the problems experienced by Palestinian refugees have been deepened. In this study, exclusion policies towards Palestinian refugees are discussed on political and economic grounds and evaluated along with the legal infrastructure.
