Reasons for choosing adventure tourist guidance: A research in the context of self-determination theory

Basic psychological needs are known as the basic needs that individuals have from birth and satisfying these needs can affect many psychological factors. Tourist guides are seen as the most important component of the tourism industry. Specifying the basic psychological needs of the tourist guides serving in adventure tours and presenting the level of their satisfaction can affect the improvement and well being of the guides as necessary for their profession. This research was carried out to determine the basic psychological needs of individuals who perform adventure tourist guide services. In this study qualitative research methos was used. The data of the research were collected online with semi-structures interview form. For data analysis, coding and classification were made by using concent analysis. According to the research results; It has been determined that adventure guides meet their basic psychological needs during adventure activities. It has been seen that adventure tourist guides are individuals with autonomous motivation and have will and self-control in their decisions to participate in activities. In addition, it has been determined that the guides are individuals who can overcome the work they do successfully and meet the need for competence. It has been seen that the long periods spent on adventure tours pave the way for the deepening of the relations between the guide and the guest, and the close friendships established and the guides meet the need for relatedness.
