Ethnobotanic features and landscape values of some plants growing in Maçka (Trabzon) district

Unfortunately, the tradition of recognizing and evaluating many plants in nature is on the verge of disappearing due to rapid migration from the village to the city and lack of information transfer due to the lack of communication between the old and young population. From this point of view, this thesis study, it is aimed to emphasize the importance of plants in nature, identify and record ethnobotanical plants, bring the tradition of using natural plants to the light, transfer this tradition to future generations and determine the potential for use of these plants in landscape architecture. Within the scope of the study, an on-site survey was conducted in Maçka district to determine some medicinal-aromatic plant taxa that grow naturally in Maçka district of Trabzon, are used for ethnobotanical purposes by the local people and have the potential to be used as plant material in landscape designs. Examination, observation and photograph were made. A face-to-face survey was conducted with 48 people by visiting 25 neighborhoods and 4 highlands in the district. As a result of the studies, it has been determined that a total of 193 plant taxa belonging to 65 families are used for various purposes, especially for food and treatment. In addition, 134 of the identified taxa were found to have landscape value and suggestions for potential usage areas were presented. The findings obtained in the study will encourage the usability of medicinal-aromatic natural plant taxa in landscape studies, as well as increase awareness of ethnobotanical uses and contribute to the literature.
