Synthesis of Magnesium and Calcium Borates and Investigation of Fire Retardant Properties in Conveyor Belt

Abstract (EN)

It is known that fire and gases resulting from fire pose a vital risk in the production sectors. To reduce this risk, flame retardant additives are used in the production process of conveyor belts. Boron and boron products are used in the production and development of products served to many different sectors thanks to the studies carried out in recent years. Among these areas of use; It has been proven by previous studies that it has a fire retardant effect in paints and fabrics. In this research, magnesium borate and calcium borate, which are synthesized by liquid phase reaction methods as flame retardant additives, have been added to rubber band pulps which are put on the market as fire retardant tapes with flame retardant additives. After this addition, cooking process tests were applied and cooking times were determined for each sample. The flame retardant effects were determined by applying the exacerbation characteristic tests to the rubber band pastes baked under suitable conditions and times. As a result of the tests, magnesium borate and calcium borate additives proved to have flame retardant effects.
