Abstract (EN)

Although there are many studies on the religious dimension of the concepts of crime and punishment, which follow a parallel course with the history of humanity, there are not enough arguments for the study done in prison on this subject. As it is understood in the light of the limited research on this subject, there is a link between committing a crime and levels of religiosity. This link generally follows a negative trend. With the decrease in the level of religiosity, there is an increase in the rate of committing crimes. The general purpose of this thesis is to determine the accuracy level of this idea. In the first chapter, the subject has been introduced and the scope, limitation, importance etc. issues have been clarified in the sub-titles. In the second, the concepts of crime and punishment were explained in our study, and then information about the historical process of these two concepts was collected and brief explanations were made by relating them to Turkish history. In the third part, the subjects of religion and religiosity were emphasized and the place of crime and punishment in religion was tried to be determined. Under the name of 3 monotheistic religions and then other religions, crime and punishment phenomena in religions are tried to be explained and exemplified. In the fourth part, it was tried to establish a relationship between religion and religiosity and crime and punishment, and in the fifth part, the survey conducted in Diyarbakır prison and the answers given by the prisoners to this study were transferred to tables and the results were explained. The findings of the studies carried out at the end of our study are generally presented in the conclusion part.
