Investigation of risk situations and preparedness levels against the impacts of global climate change of the existing ports in the Marmara Region

Abstract (EN)

Ports, which are vital in the economic growth and development of a country, take a significant place from global climate change. When evaluated strategically, global climate change, it is an urgent issue that the ports in different parts of the world adapt to the impacts of global climate change and take the necessary measures for risk perception in time, as in other sectors that have vital importance such as agriculture, industry, fisheries and animal husbandry. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the tendencies of the existing ports in the Marmara Region in terms of risk perception, climate change awareness, climate change impact and adaptation to climate change impacts by age, gender, marital status and education level. In accordance with the purpose of the research, a questionnaire consisting of 40 questions was applied to the aforementioned port workers. As a result of the findings obtained, it was concluded that the perceptions of the participants towards climate change were high and they were worried about climate change. In addition, the risk perception levels of the participants against global climate change and their thoughts on the readiness of the port they work for global climate change did not differ significantly according to their gender and education level. On the other hand, the perception levels of the participants between the ages of 26-30 about the readiness of the port they work for global climate change were found to be different from other age groups. Also it has been determined that the single participants are worried about the level of preparation for the effects of climate change is not sufficient in the future business.
