Abstract (EN)

This study, which is prepared as a master's thesis at the Department of Physical Oceanography and Marine Biology at the Institute of Marine Sciences and Management of Istanbul University, mainly aims to examine the relationship between oceanographic conditions and climate change in the east of the Marmara Sea via evaluating 1997-2010 temperature and salinity data collected at 8 stations and 1997-2019 monthly air temperature and pressure data. In this context, time series are created for the upper and lower layers, oceanographic trends are determined by calculating trend analyzes, and the values obtained are compared with the trends of atmospheric conditions and the surrounding seas. Linear Trend method is used as trend analysis method. The average temperature trend in the east Marmara Sea is 0,067ºC/y in the upper layer and 0,028ºC/y in the lower layer during this period. The salinity trend is 0.105 psu/y in the upper layer and 0,012 psu/y in the lower layer. The air temperature trend is 0.086 ºC/y, and the air pressure trend is -0,034 psu/y. The values obtained are close to the surrounding seas, and the air temperature and upper layer temperatures are consistent with each other in terms of both long-term series and trend values.
