The concept of 'Alienation' in Marx's philosophy

This thesis focuses on the notion of alienation, which occupies a principal place in Marx's philosophy. Alienation, in Hegel's philosophy, was first defined as a moment that comes about during the transition from consciousness to self-consciousness. By means of the critical "reverse method" Feuerbach's authentic re-interpretation of this notion is a projection of essence onto a transcendent being. This notion reaches its final form in the philosophy of Marx. For this reason, the study of alienation requires a careful examination of the intellectual surrounding of Marx's thought. Comparative readings would reveal the authenticity and continuity of Marx's thought. In modern capitalist production, people lose control over their lives. Marx emphasizes the role of wage labor as the reason for this. Even though this idea is associated with the Economic and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844, it is in the essence of Marx's philosophy and developed continuously through his early writings until Capital. This thesis aims to re-examine the notion of alienation in a thorough manner and serves as a comprehensive resource for future research.
