In the context of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs the impact of high school students' perceptions of environmental safety on their future expectations

In this study, in the context of Maslow's hierarchy of needs, the effect of environmental safety perceptions of high school students on their future expectations was examined. In this direction, the study was carried out with the participation of 1149 students studying in the 2020-2021 education process in secondary education institutions affiliated to Sakarya Provincial Directorate of National Education. The research was carried out in the scanning model. "Future Expectation Scale" and "Environmental Safety Scale" were used in the study. The analysis of the data was evaluated in the SPSS 24 package program. Mean, percentage, frequency and standard deviation were used for descriptive statistics in the analysis of the study. Since the scales have a normal distribution, parametric tests were used. In the study, correlation was used to find the relationship between dependent and independent variables, and regression analysis was used to find the effect. According to the results obtained in the research; It has been observed that high school students' future expectations are "very high", and their environmental safety perceptions are high at the level of "absolutely agree". In addition, high school students' future expectations and sub-dimensions and environmental safety perceptions differed significantly according to various personal variables. In this context, personal variables that show a significant difference in high school students' future expectation; gender, mother's job status, school type, grade levels, age, number of siblings, with whom they live, mother and father's education status, family monthly income, the environment in which they live, and the house they live in. Similarly, the variables showing a significant difference in high school students' perception of environmental safety; mothers were seen as job status and grade levels. In the sub-dimensions of high school students' future expectations; As the level of educational future expectations increases, the level of social future expectations increases at a high level; As the level of personal and professional future expectations increases, the level of economic future expectations increases in direct proportion to a weak level; As the level of personal and professional future expectations increases, the level of social future expectations increases in direct proportion to a weak level; It was observed that as the level of personal and professional future expectations increased, the level of educational future expectations increased in direct proportion to a weak level. Environmental security explained 4.90% of the future expectation in the research. From here, it was seen that high school students' perception of environmental safety has an effect on their future expectation. Accordingly, when the environmental safety perception was increased by 1 unit, it was seen that the future expectation perception increased by 0.332 positively and significantly.
