Abstract (EN)

The relationship between Māturīdism and Ash‛arism has constantly changed throughout history. There were periods when the two sects were completely separated from each other, as well as periods when they were mixed. However, both sects have managed to reach the present day with their own views and methods. In this study, the position of the Kamāl al-Dīn al-Andijānī, who lived in the XIV. century, which is a period in which attempts to reconcile the two sects increased, against the Ash‛arī sect will be discussed. His identification of nineteen issues on which the Ash‛arites disagreed with the Māturīdīs in his work Ṣidq al-Kalām and his presentation of them with a unique classification is important as it is one of the first examples of the "Māturīdī-Ash‛arism Controversy Literature". In this respect, first, to provide a scientific and historical background for our study, the view of the scholars in the Hanafī-Māturīdī tradition towards the Ash‛arīs until al-Andijānī was determined and evaluated by classifying them as exclusionist, separatist, and conciliatory. Then, based on the Ash‛arī scholars that al-Andijānī cites, the qualifications he uses about them and the evidence and arguments he brings in controversial issues, we have tried to determine which of these three attitudes he is close to. As a result, we have concluded that al-Andijānī's predominant attitude was separatist, and that the attempts to unify Māturīdism and Ash‛arism, which were widespread in his time, were not fully present in al-Andijānī.
