Abstract (EN)

With the development of technology, we often encounter phone applications as music listening tools. While individuals used to listen to songs with communication tools such as vinyl records, mp3s and television, they now listen to songs with paid/free applications downloaded to their phones. Generation Z, which is highly influenced by social media, expresses itself through these applications. This generation, born with technology, accepts digital media as part of their lives. They quickly adopt innovations in digital media and use social media as a communication tool to create their own identities and communicate with the outside world. They prefer self-expression, sensationalism and activist behavior on digital media. Although not all individuals are the same, Generation Z individuals tend to reflect the same behaviors and values as each other. Generation Z, active members of the Emirec theory, consume products quickly and create new products without realizing it. Although they are behaviorally prone to be contradictory, they strive to innovate, develop and change the old. This situation has also affected their music listening preferences. They make a profit by reintroducing an old song to the market by making a "cover" (reorganization of an old song). The research problem: "What are the musical preferences and consumption of Generation Z that emerged under the influence of social events or technology era?" The aim of the research: "The expressive and characteristic reflections of Generation Z; whether they are members of the Emirec theory in the context of the music they prefer to listen to". This research was carried out using the Descriptive Survey Model since a literature review and a questionnaire study applied to the determined sample was conducted. In this research, Stratified Sampling Method was used since it constitutes a heterogeneous structure due to factors such as age, gender, socio-economic status, education, etc. In this research, while the wishes and preferences and artistic tendencies of the people of Sakarya constitute the universe; Sakarya University constitutes the sample within the scope of the musical tendencies, wishes and consumption of Generation Z in Sakarya. In this survey study conducted within the framework of the sample, it is observed that the songs preferred are the songs of people who are popular or popularized on social media. The data obtained were analyzed with qualitative analysis methods and applications and interpreted by frequency analysis. According to the results obtained from the analysis programs of the data obtained, it is concluded that factors such as gender and educational status do not affect the music listening preferences of people belonging to this generation; it is sufficient to belong to this generation and to actively use social media, and that they are members of the Emirec theory.
