Representation of magic in the media: "Gravity Falls Journal 3"

Magic has always been here, originating at the cave walls of primitive people. At first, it was used for needs such as abundance of pray or better health. As prosperity achieved concerning the basic needs, people utilized magic for more ambition-driven goals; holding power, having another to love one, harm foes or even kill them... Genies or deamons used in magic have been seen as gods throughout history. Magic has different varieties for different purposes. Also, it is done by using certain materials. Because magic requires extaordinary abilities and knowlage, not everybody can or could do it. Therefore, magicians have been considered important amongst societies and even statesmen have utilized their help. In old ages, magic was believed to have the potantial use for good outcomes but this is false. The meaning of magic is bad and because the applications are done using infidel beings, magic does not have positive outcomes. In our study, we tried to show that magic cannot be used with good intentions and magic by definition, refers to a bad application. The reason is that magic and its methods when taught to children is dangerous for their future in terms of their understanding of it. In this study, resource scanning, semiotics and resource analysis are used in terms of methodology. The data is accumulated using qualitative research techniques. For subjects understandiblity and for the purposes of comparison at book analysis, supportive visual data has been added. In theorical part of the study, therminology of magic, sorts of magic, place of magic in history, place of magic in religions were researched. Following this, the theachings of magic within the exemplary book were analysed using visuals of the same book in question. In the study, it is concluded that the children cartoon book Gravity Falls Journal 3, had contents regarding; how and by which means magic could be done in real life, which were told in a manner that would keep the interest of children. It has also been concluded that The Masonic Sect that adopts Kabala, a form of Jewish magic, is in this book, setting to teach the same ideology of magic they adopt to the readers.
