Abstract (EN)
In the context of the mechamism that reproduce the gender patterns constantly, the army culture has a feature that shapes the socio-cultural structure, life style and the patterns of understanding. The army and the armed forces are generally regarded as a masculine field and a male profession. Therefore, this study focus on women soldiers in the Turkish Army, where masculinity is rebuilt and reproduced repeatedly and the gender patterns are felt most deeply. Media is a stage where women can be easily observed in terms of their place and traditional role in society, and it plays an important role in analyzing the gender roles of women. Also media has an important role that reflects social reality. As a result, in media it is emphasized that women fulfill the military profession that described as a "sacred" and "difficult" work, which is generally seen as a masculine area. However it is seen that gender discrimination continues to be made even though it is covered by focusing on the roles of gender roles assigned to women as self-sacrificing parents and being a good wife. Also it is claimed that women are tried to be shown as an extraordinary being in the professional way, that the woman is glorified by her military identity while the media reproduces gender patterns and uses a sexist language. The aim of the study is to reveal the representation of the female military officers and military sergeants who serve for the Turkish Armed Forces in the context of gender. For this purpose, it is aimed to show that the media is an important instrument for the reproduction of gender patterns in the study where the social position of the woman thought to be created by patriarchal ideologies and the image of the woman constructed in this context through a news and interview about women soldiers in written and visual media. Firstly, related literature has been reviewed. After that, the content and discourse analysis of the media texts were made by examining the news and interviews about the female soldiers in the written and visual media. These linguistic examinations of randomly selected news and interviews about women soldiers let us know about how women are represented in the context of gender, whether the media uses a sexist language
