Mehmed Sa'dî and his divan named Gulsen-i Âsâr (Evaluation and text)

ABSTRACT MEHMED SA'DI AND HIS DIVAN NAMED GULSEN-I ÂSÂR (EVALUATION AND TEXT) Şuayip SERBES AFYON KOCATEPE UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF SOCIAL SCIENCES DEPARTMENT OF TURKISH LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE August, 2024 Advisor: Dr. Lecturer Alper GÜNAYDIN In this study, titled "Mehmed Sa'dî and His Divan Named Gülşen-i Âsâr (Evaluation and Text)" the life, art and literary personality of Mehmed Sa'dî Bey, a 19th-century divan poet, are discussed based on the couplets in his divan. Following this, the divan was analyzed than transcribed into the Latin alphabet. The divan titled Gülşen-i Âsâr, which we have analyzed is the only known work of Mehmed Sa'dî Bey. While examining the poems in the divan, conclusions were drawn about the poet's art, literary personality, and style. The study also attempts to glean some clues about the life of Mehmed Sa'dî Bey, who has very little information available about his life, through his poems. The study consists of three sections. In the first section, a general evaluation of the divan Gülşen-i Âsâr, which primarily contains songs, historical poems, and a few poems in Arabic and Persian was conducted. In the second section, topics related to the poet's life were evaluated based on his poems. Additionally, his art and literary personality were discussed, guided by his poems. In the third section, the transcribed text of the poet's divan named as Gülşen-i Âsâr is presented. In this study, Mehmed Sa'dî's divan was examined, the poems were transcribed into the Latin alphabet, textual corrections were made where necessary, the poems were numbered and the meter of each poem was identified and recorded alongside the poem.
