A research about the life and works of Mehmet Behçet Yazar

Mehmet Behçet Yazar was born in 1890. He received his primary and secondary education in Aleppo and Salonica, and studied law in Istanbul. He wrote essays and composed poems for various periodicals of his time, such as Hanımlara Mahsus Gazete, Servet-i Fünun, Resimli İstanbul, Resimli Kitap, Şehbal, Tasvir-i Efkâr, Musavver Muhit, Âşiyân, Mehâsin, Şiir ve Tefekkür, Tanin, Şair, Kanad, Nedim, Açıksöz, Gençlik, Anadolu Duygusu, Sebilürreşad, Anavatan Mecmuası, İctihad, Türk Tarih Encümeni Mecmuası, Yedigün, and Yücel. Being one of the youngest member of Fecr-i Ati, Mehmet Behçet served as a teacher and later as a principal in Beyrut, Kastamonu, Ankara, and İstanbul. He died in 1980 in Istanbul. Mehmet Behçet, who published his first poem in 1908, published his first book, Erganun, in 1911, and his second and last poetry book, Yumak, in 1938. Apart from these works, there are also other works of him, which never published: Mahûf Uçurumlar (a prose poetry and poetry book), Çile and Kutu Kapakları (poetry books). He dealt with different issues in these works such as love and women/lover, nature, society, religion, mystery and also wrote poems about social and political life. In addition to poetry, there are other kinds of works for him, such as prose poem and "fantasy," as well. He brought together these works in his books, Buhurdan, published in 1925, and Mahûf Uçurumlar. Mehmet Behçet gave place to the themes of love, nature, metaphysics, society and wrote pieces concerning life and his"self" in his prose poetry and fantasies. There are also poems, prose poems, and "fantasies" belonging to him, which published in the periodicals of his time. Apart from literary works such as poetry, prose poetry, and "fantasy", he has so many works and writings, published in periodicals of his time, dealing with literature, culture, language, politics, social and educational matters as well. In conclusion, it can be said that Mehmet Behçet Yazar has an important position in our history of literature both thanks to his literary works and his non-literary writings.
