Abstract (EN)

The vocabulary of a language is an important element that reflects the traditions, lifestyles, material and spiritual culture and habits of the people who speak that language. The richer the vocabulary of a nation, the more developed that nation is intellectually and spiritually. Writers have a great responsibility in transferring the language, which is the carrier of culture, to future generations. The child should be able to find the best examples of his native language in the children's books he reads. Taking care to protect and enrich the Turkish language should be the greatest responsibility of the children's book author. Especially in this age of technology, our linguistic richness must be used frequently in books in order to preserve the existence of the language and to ensure that our culture and all kinds of national spiritual values are transferred to future generations. The more children who are in the period of developing their native language encounter the vocabulary found in books, the more memorable it will be and the child's speaking and writing skills will improve. The aim of this study is to examine the works written for children by Mehmet Güler, one of the children's literature writers, in terms of vocabulary. The aim of this study is to reveal to what extent works used as tools in the education and training of children can be benefited from. The study materials of the research consist of 211 stories in 20 children's books belonging to the author. The research is descriptive in nature and the contents of the works were analyzed using the document analysis method. The data obtained in the study were collected based on the dictionaries of the Turkish Language Association. In this research, it was found that the most commonly used vocabulary elements in the works are terms, idioms, reduplications, formulaic expressions, onomatopoeia and proverbs, respectively. This result shows that vocabulary elements play an important role in increasing the expressive power and richness of the works. Key words: Mehmet Güler, Children's Literature, Turkish Vocabulary
