Abstract (EN)
This study investigates the influence of the Meisner Technique, developed by Sanford Meisner, on the creative process through the staging of play "Ispat" by Bahçe Galata. The research explores how the technique's principles—listening, spontaneous response, and partner focus—function throughout the rehearsal and during the performance. In addition, analysis how these principles contribute to performers' presence, authenticity, spontaneity, and interaction. A theoretical framework was built through a review of international literature on the Meisner Technique. Data were gathered from 13 interviews with three actors and the director at different stages (before, during, and after rehearsals and during the performances), along with observations from 19 rehearsals. Thematic analysis mainly focused on presence, realism and authenticity, spontaneity and naturalness, partner interaction, and creative contribution. The findings show that the technique improved rehearsal efficiency, supported spontaneous and genuine performances, and enabled believable partner-based interaction. However, a weak grasp of given circumstances caused detachment from the text, and shortened rehearsal time and miscommunication hindered team harmony. In conclusion, the Meisner Technique enhanced performers' focus, authenticity, and creative flexibility in dialogue-based plays, but careful application is needed to maintain textual adherence. The study recommends clearer definition of given circumstances, improved team communication, and culturally adapted implementation for its broader use in Turkish theatre.
