Turkish validity and reliability of the mechanical and inflammatory low back pain index, evaluation of disability and physical performance in chronic low back pain according to mechanical and inflammatory component

Aim: The aim of study is to verify the Turkish validity and reliability of Mechanical and Inflammatory Low Back Pain Index, which is used to determine the mechanical and inflammatory component of low back pain, examine the effect on pain-related disability, physical performance according to mechanical and inflammatory component of pain. Material and Method: 120 patients with low back pain were included in the Turkish validity reliability analysis of Mechanical and Inflammatory Low Back Pain Index, in the first phase of study. Language, content validity of data, explanatory, confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach's-α reliability coefficient and test-retest analyzes were performed. In second phase, effects of mechanical and inflammatory components on disability and physical performance investigated in 50 patients with low back pain. Data were analyzed in SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0 statistical packages. Results: Factor loads of scale items found above 0.30, explaining %83.237 of total variance. Confirmatory factor analysis supported 2-factor scale structure resulting from explanatory factor analysis. Cronbach-α coefficient calculated 0.735. Test-retest analysis of index was highly correlated. Low back pain score of inflammatory and mechanical components had significant effect on disability (p1<0.05); while inflammatory component was effective on trunk flexion (p1<0.05), mechanical component had no effect on walking (p1>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that Index had similar structure to original scale, had high validity, reliability, was an adequate measurement tool that could be used in evaluation of patients with low back pain in Turkish population. In addition, mechanical or inflammatory component of pain affected disability and physical performance. Keywords: Disability, Low Back Pain, Physical Performance, Reliability, Validity.
