Abstract (EN)
Political, social and economic circumstances throughout history between Mexico and the United States of America have had a major impact on the film industry. Through an analysis of historical highlights and selected films, my research connotes that the complicated relations between the two nations are reflected in cinema, explaining how the stereotype of Mexico was created in American cinema. According to my view, the most valuable elements of Mexican culture are diminished under the negative image of Mexico in American cinema and other forms of media. Most importantly social problems and discrimination are direct consequences of the stereotype reproduced by cinema.
