Comparison of the efficacy of mometasone furoate application alone and combination of centella asiatica in the treatment of breast cancer radiation dermatitis

The development of dermatitis after radiotherapy, which has an important place in the treatment of breast cancer, which is the most common type of cancer in women, is a very common condition with a rate of 85-95%. However, there is currently no standard treatment approach to prevent the development of radiodermatitis. In our study, a total of 60 consecutive patients in 3 groups, who were used prophylactic Mometasone furoate, Centella asiatica or Mometasone furoate + Centella asiatica, were evaluated retrospectively in terms of the risk of developing radiodermatitis. The 6-week follow-up data of all patient groups were evaluated. It was determined that all 3 groups significantly decreased the rate of development of radiodermatitis compared to the expected levels. As a result, it was concluded that the use of Centella asiatica and Mometasone furoate during the radiotherapy application periods in the treatment of breast cancer significantly decreased the expected rates of radiodermatitis development, but the use of Centella asiatica alone should not be preferred primarily. It can be concluded that Mometasone furoate, which is a more effective anti-inflammatory in the early period. would be appropriate to use it in combination with the the long-term effects of Centella asiatica.
