Abstract (EN)

Introduction and Objective: Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer worldwide and is the most common cause of cancer-related death in women. The aim of this study is to retrospectively examine the sociodemographic characteristics of patients diagnosed with breast cancer and thus to determine the risk factors of the cases. Materials and Methods: In this study, 600 breast cancer cases who applied to the Chemotherapy Unit of Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology Department between 2017-2021 were incleded. Sociodemographic characteristics of the cases were analyzed retrospectively. Findings: 599 of the patients were female, 1 was male and all of them were over the age of 18. The mean age at diagnosis was 49.6 years. The three provinces where the highest number of patients were Trabzon (63.2%), Giresun (11%), Rize (7.8%). In 27% of the patients, the parents had consanguineous marriages. It was determined that the rate of consanguineous marriage in the parents was higher in patients diagnosed with breast cancer compared to the general population. Results: As a result, in our study, it was found that the rate of consanguineous marriage in parents was higher in patients diagnosed with breast cancer than the normal population, and the number of patients diagnosed with breast cancer incerased as the floor height of residence decreased.
