Menopausal symptoms and sexual life between relation

This research has been conducted in Zekai Tahir Burak Kadın Sağlığı Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Menopoz Ünitesi in order to determine the relation between the menopausal symptoms and sexual life both descriptively and sectionally. The sampling was composed of 249 women. The data has been colected by the researcher, with MSDÖ and KCFSİ, between 18.02.2008 and 28.03.2008, via the surveys which were prepared in accordance with the literature.The data has been evaluated by descriptive statistical methods, reliability analysis, Kolmogrov-Smirnov test, Pearson correlation analysis and Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U test. The official permits, ethical approvals and written and oral agreements from the contributors are taken for the research.The women had an age average of 52.30±6.06 of which 72.3% were primary school graduates and 67.9% were housewives. The average of menopause is 45.34±4.87 . The %18.9 of women took HRT.Approximately half of the women are experiencing menopausal ( =22.58±6.31) and urogenital ( =5.86±2.36) , one third of the women are experiencing somatic ( =8.55±2.77), and pschological ( =8.16±3.04) symptoms violently. The most fever / sweating (53.4%) and the least (34.5%) anxiety/worry is seen.77.1 % of the women?s sexual lives were affected negatively; %76.3 of the women?s sexual desires and %79.1 of the women?s sexual intercourse frequency decreased. More than the half of the women experienced sexual disstatisfaction ( =6.90±3.19) and discomfort in sexual intercourse ( =6.32±3.15) and the other half experienced sexual intercourse frequency / libido ( =8.06±2.94) and general sexual problems ( =21.29±7.98) . The most experienced problems are discomfort in sexual intercourse (%69.5) and vaginal dryness (%68.7). However only 4.4 % have rapplied to medical institutions and 13.3% have tried any products other than medicine for their sexual problems.Important relationships have been found between MSDÖ general scale and KCFSİ general scale and problems in sexual intercourse, urogenital complaints and KCFSİ general scale and sexual intercourse, somatic complaints and KCFSİ general scale and sexual intercourse lower scale. (p<0.05)The increase of age, the satisfaction of sexual life before menopause and negatively influence of sexual life after menopause decreases the sexual function scores.
