Determining the approaches to occupational health and safety of students educated in vocational schools

In this study, it is aimed to examine the perspectives of Vocational School students on occupational health and safety. The survey model, which is among the descriptive research models, was used in the study. A total of 292 students, 124 female and 168 male, studying at vocational schools affiliated to Kırklareli University in the 2022-2023 academic year participated in the research. The "Occupational Health and Safety Information Scale" was used to determine the perspectives of the students participating in the research on occupational health and safety. This scale, which was developed within the scope of this study, consists of 20 items and a single sub-dimension. In the analysis process of the obtained data, frequency analysis and independent sample t-test were used in SPSS 25.0 program.At the end of the research, it has been understood that the students considered occupational health and safety as an important element in the prevention of occupational accidents and occupational diseases. In addition, it has been determined that they have sufficient knowledge of the laws pertaining to their profession and that they are aware of the responsibilities of workers and employers in ensuring occupational health and safety. Moreover, it was noticed that the views of the students participating in the study on occupational health and safety did not differ significantly according to their gender. However, it has been verified that they do not think about how occupational health and safety affects business life, and their level of knowledge about the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 is low. As a result, it can be said that vocational school students generally have basic knowledge of occupational health and safety, and the gender variable does not affect students' views on occupational health and safety.
