Özet (EN)
Literacy skills are one of the basic requirements of today's digital information ecosystem. The multi-faceted and multi-layered nature of this environment requires individuals to acquire certain competencies. In this ecosystem, as in many areas, to reach accurate information or reliable news; In addition, being able to question the accuracy of the information/news obtained may indicate a difficult process in some cases. Individuals who lack the necessary skills and acquisitions are unable to resist the circulating false information; this situation strengthens the possibility of misdirection in the individual sense and causes the development of a healthy public opinion at the social level. In this context, in this thesis, it is questioned whether meta-literacy, which is an inclusive and versatile type of literacy, has a role in the processes of making sense of and questioning fake news. To reveal this, a field survey was conducted, data were collected through an online survey to represent the population density of seven regions of Turkey proportionally, and the results were obtained in Jamovi 2.3.9. analyzed using the program. The Meta Literacy Self-Efficacy Scale, which was not available in the literature before the survey, was developed in this thesis study and this survey was applied to the field. As a result, it was concluded that meta-literacy has an effect on the perception and questioning of the fake news encountered, and it is explained in detail in the thesis. Keywords: Meta literacy, fake news, verification.
