Evaluation of the prognostic nutrition index (PNI) on treatment response in geriatric pati̇ents with metastati̇c colorectal cancer

Objectives: The aim of the study was to examine the relationship of hematological and biochemical parameters and indices created with these parameters with overall survival and progression free survival in geriatric patients diagnosed with metastatic colorectal cancer before the first treatment. Matherial and Methods: Between January 1, 2018 and January 1, 2023; 119 patients who were diagnosed with colorectal cancer and treated and followed up in the Karadeniz Technical University Faculty of Medicine Medical Oncology Department, had tissue biopsy, were found to be metastatic at the time of diagnosis, were 65 years and older, and whose laboratory parameters were registered before the first treatment were included. The data of the patients were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The effects of demographic data, clinical and pathological features, hematological and biochemical parameters and indices creted with these parameters Prognostic Nutritionel Index on OS and PFS were evaluated. It was determined that patients in the high group had better overall survival (24 months / 11 months) than the patients in the low group (p<0,001). Conclusion: Our findings show that PNI score calculated before treatment in patients with colorectal cancer can help clinicians in terms of prognosis prediction.
