Abstract (EN)

Turkey is in one of the seismically active regions in the world. Tens of thousands of people have lost their lives due to earthquakes in the last century. Educational buildings need to meet high performance target criteria both in terms of ensuring life and property safety and because they are strategic buildings that need to be used after an earthquake. Therefore, it is of great importance to reveal their status. Within the scope of the thesis, data belonging to 321 educational buildings that have previously undergone seismic examination in the Izmir region were examined. The results were compared statistically using many parameters such as current material properties of educational buildings, core test results, and geometric dimensions. The adequacy of column areas in proportion to the number of floors and floor area was investigated using the Sozen method. When the core sample results obtained from the 321 educational buildings, the average concrete strength value was found to be 11.05 MPa. The mean-standard deviation value was 8.54 MPa. According to the calculations made with the Anatolian formula, it was determined that 190 of the 321 educational buildings were sufficient in terms of the column area, floor area and number, while 131 were inadequate. Buildings built before 1964 have the highest inadequacy rate. The inadequacy rate is similar in a significant portion of the buildings built from 1970 to the early 2000s. The inadequacy is proportional to the increase in the number of inadequate buildings and the number of floors and floor area.
