Abstract (EN)

This thesis study involves the design and implementation of a maximum power point tracking (MPPT)-based active soft-switched cascaded boost-type converter. The analysis, design, simulation, and implementation of the active soft-switched cascaded boost converter used in the system have been carried out. It has been observed that the main and auxiliary switches performed switching under soft-switching conditions even during sudden changes in solar irradiance. This situation has contributed to reducing switching losses while increasing overall efficiency. Additionally, maximum power has been extracted from the photovoltaic (PV) panels and transferred to the load. The perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm was employed as the MPPT method in the system. Experimental results were obtained by operating the 330 W converter at a switching frequency of 40 kHz using a PV simulator. By using a cascaded converter, the desired high output voltage was achieved at a low duty cycle. The proposed cascaded converter provides a high voltage gain with fewer power switches, leading to reduced cost and circuit size. PSIM software was used for the simulation studies. A TMS320F28379D digital signal processor (DSP) card served as the controller in the system. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system effectively meets the requirement for high DC bus voltage with high efficiency, and successfully transfers maximum power to the load.
