Abstract (EN)

Microwave Chemistry is becoming increasingly popular both in industry and academia. The aim of this study is to declare the effect of microwaves on the chemical reactions, to use of microwaves in industry and academic region and, to add an idea in microwave chemistry by doing an experimental study both in classic and microwave experimental systems. In addition there are many idea and hypothesis connected with the effect of microwaves on chemical reactions. These ideas and hypothesis are investigated in this thesis. In order to add an idea in microwave chemistry, the dissolution rate of a pyrite mineral from Artvin- Murgul Copper mine in ferric sulfate solutions supported with sulfuric acid was investigated both in classic and microwave experimental systems. Particle size, the concentration of ferric sulfate and sulfuric acid, temperature and microwave power was chosen as parameters. According to the experimental results, it was observed that the dissolution rate of pyrite increased with increase of reaction temperature, ferric sulfate, acid concentration and microwave power, and decreased with increase of particle size. It was established that, the reaction rate between pyrite and ferric sulfate supported with sulfuric acid was chemically controlled and that the microwave power causes decreasing both activation energy and pre-exponential factor A in Arrhenius equation. The activation energy in classic and microwave systems was established as 33,43 and 18,72 kj/mol respectively.
