School managers, teachers, students and their parents' views on e-school in the Ministry of National Education school management information system

Abstract (EN)

Nowadays, many developed and developing countries are in the brink of passing period to information society. Certainly, computer and network are two factors of the most important characteristics. These two factors, which shape economic, social and politic structures of the societies, naturally will influence the structure of education which transfers the information to generations. Our country which is a passing period to information society is influenced by those two factors. Those factors show their effects on some projects and studies which are conducted to be used in education by Ministry of National Education which has a mission to transfer information to generationsMinistry of National Education has completed necessary substructure studies to support rapid flow of information and MEBBİS has been implemented. The ministry aims to give services of the ministry with MEBBİS via benefiting from ICT more actively, cheaply, faster, and in time. The all elements which make up management procedures of the ministry in addition to student, personnel, fixed properties and movable properties are transferred to electronic environment via modules which are located in MEBBİS. MEBBİS which enables all administrative center and the outside processes to be hold, consists of nearly 100 modules. One of those modules is e-school system. There is e-school guardian information system which works with this module and guardians can follow their students? school success.The aim of this study is to determine what school managers, teachers, students and their guardians think about Ministry of National Education School Management Information System. This study was conducted in Antalya Kuzdere Hacı Mehmet Saygın Primary School. In this study which is a qualitative research, data colleting methods are semi-structured individual and focus group interviews which are based on open ended questions. 3 managers and 37 teachers who work at Antalya Kuzdere Hacı Mehmet Saygın Primary School and 729 students who study at this school and their guardians consist of the population of the research. 3 managers (1 head manager and two assist managers), 11 branch teachers, 6 students (2 students from 6th grade, 2 students from 7th grade and 2 students from 8th grade), 6 guardians (guardians of these 6 students) consists of the sample of the research. In this study, data were analyzed via qualitative data analysis methods (content analysis). On the basis of this data analysis, findings and interpretations were made up. At the end of the study, suggestions were put forward on the basis of the findings.The most important result obtained from this research was that managers, teachers, students and guardians were generally satisfied with using these systems. But they thought that these systems would be more functional with some arrangements.
