The effects of the Ministry of National Educaton school gyms on student, teachers, administration and the general operation of the school: A case study

In this study, the aim was to determine the effects of school sports halls on students, teachers, administrators, and the overall functioning of the school, as per the Ministry of National Education. The opinions of students, teachers, and administrators regarding the effects of sports halls in schools on students were sought. The research is limited to the interview records obtained from administrators and teachers working in schools with sports halls in Manavgat during the 2021-2022 academic year and students studying in these schools. The research was designed in a qualitative manner, using a single-case design from the case study designs. The population of the study consisted of 7 administrators and 230 teachers working in schools with sports halls in Manavgat, Antalya, and 3,435 students studying in these schools. Semi-structured interview forms were used to collect the research data, and content analysis was conducted using the qualitative research software NVivo 9.2. The results were presented in a descriptive narrative. According to the findings of the research, it can be said that the school principal, students, and teachers have a positive perception of the sports hall. According to the findings of the research, the school principal, student, and teacher participants stated that the implementation of physical education classes in the sports hall had a positive effect on the efficiency of the classes. It was also found that all the school principals and teacher participants expressed that the students' use of the sports hall in other lessons had a positive impact on their behavior. Additionally, the majority of student participants expressed positive views regarding the attitudes and behaviors of students using the sports hall. However, among the teacher participants, it was concluded that half of them believed that the use of the sports hall had a positive impact on students' attitudes and behaviors, while the other half believed it had a negative impact. Furthermore, the majority of school principal participants, student participants, and teacher participants find the physical education teachers' skills in using the sports hall to be sufficient. In line with the results, the research suggests that all schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education should have sports halls and that the physical capacity of the sports halls in these schools should be increased.
