Determination of occupational health and safety risks in school dormitory cafeterials affiliated with the Ministry of National Education and proposals for solutions

There are risk factors that threaten the health and safety of both staff and students in the food supply, kitchen, and related activities of school dormitories that provide student accommodation, food, and cleaning services. Proactively identifying and eliminating or minimizing these risk factors is crucial for ensuring the health and safety of employees. This study was conducted to identify potential risks and propose solutions for employees working in 16 school dormitories in Ağrı province, affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. The draft checklist, developed by the researcher based on the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's state boarding house inspection form, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's checklist for kitchens, restaurants, and patisseries, and other relevant laws and regulations, consists of 13 sections and 80 questions. It was implemented in 16 school boarding house cafeterias. On-site observations were made, and these were documented with photographs. Our study plans to conduct a descriptive study using quantitative and qualitative data. An examination of the obtained results revealed significant shortcomings in key areas, revealing differences among the boarding houses. Short- and long-term solutions were proposed, and the goal was to raise awareness among staff.
