The effect of performance management on school managers in national education: The example of Sinop center district schools

Performance is described as a broad and sophisticated concept that is always encountered in human life. Institutions are often characterised by dynamism due to the changes and development of their contents, external and internal factors, locations and conditions. Today in our globalising world, the value given to employees has increased gradually, besides that the importance given to the performance evaluation of employees has increased in all areas of work. Developing technology has increased the need for pragmatic knowledge and in this context, it is aimed to reach the maximum level of benefit to be obtained in the studies in the field of education. Studies on performance management in education which conducted so far have shown that one of the keystones of performance management is school and institution principals. The reason why school and institution principals have such an important role in this matter is that they ensure the coordination between students, teachers, parents and the administration in the schools and institutions where they are administrators. In order to get the educational process qualified and sufficient, school and institution principals should apply the performance-based work system and ensure its sustainability. In this study, Sinop province central district school's principals' perception of performance management was examined by considering the types and levels of the schools. In addition, semi-structured interview method was used in this study. Based on the answers given it is concluded that the performance-based working system is leant towards.
