Abstract (EN)

The rapidly increasing population and urbanization worldwide lead to the continuous growth of the construction sector. This growth, in addition to meeting the need for construction, also brings density problems. While the growth of construction projects accelerates the consumption of natural resources, it also causes the depletion of a significant amount of permanence. The management of wastes, especially those generated in construction and demolition, has become a vital issue in terms of sustainability. The reduction of structural wastes, the minimization of growth effects, the elimination of economic losses and the perspective of energy expansion also have a critical opportunity to achieve. In the current literature, a large part of the permanent waste management focuses on construction and demolition. However, it is known that the decisions to be taken in the design phase are combined in order to prevent the formation of permanent wastes. Accordingly, despite the design of structural waste in the literature, studies on the relationships with the phase are quite possible. In this context, this study provides the determination of design-oriented features for the minimization of structural waste in construction projects. A comprehensive research was carried out within the scope of the thesis using systematic literature review and survey method. As a result of the literature review, a total of 57 criteria were determined for the minimization of the durability of the design process. These intervals were classified under 10 different groups within the framework of certain themes, and the survey questionnaire was examined comprehensively. The survey system was activated by architects, civil engineers, contractors and the system of the research showing its activities throughout Turkey. A total of 148 sector participants were reached in the survey. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS software and factors were determined for minimizing permanent waste. As a result of the study, it was determined that the formation of permanent waste can be greatly reduced by designing by paying attention to material dimensions. This research provides the level of continuity of the robustness of the decisions taken in the design process, and contributes to the sustainability of the construction sector. The innovations obtained are in a guiding nature for sector professionals and show that the amount of distribution in construction can be significantly increased with distribution measures at the design stage.
