Evaluation of professional ethics in the professional practice of architecture and its effects on the professional field

The study focuses on developing solutions for ethical problems encountered in micro and small scale architectural offices. The detection of unethical problems is primarily addressed with the data selected through social media with the criterion sampling method, and then the research is based on in-depth interviews with architects in the subject area. The research is of great importance in terms of revealing the level of consciousness that damages the reputation of the architectural profession, discussing professional ethical problems in the academic environment and developing solutions to the problems identified. In this context, discussing all these problems experienced in the profession of architecture and aiming to improve them is seen as an essential responsibility of a professional programme towards the profession. The first chapter includes the definition of the research problem, the purpose, scope and methodology of the study. The methodology of the study is a case study and each section that constitutes the research steps systematises the final product by planning the next section within itself. In this context, the study, in the most general terms, consists of judgements that complement each other within the framework of the research problem, through the sample and data selected in accordance with the nature of the study. In the second part, what kind of codes are developed in the legislation through the definition of ethics and unethical elements supported primarily by social media data are determined. What these situations cause is analysed in the third section through the roles and responsibilities of the architect in architectural offices. In the light of the information obtained from these sections, suggestions are developed in terms of professional ethics within the framework of the findings obtained from in-depth interviews with architects in the fourth section. Although the study proceeds through the ethical relationship of the architect with his/her colleague, the findings reveal that improvement needs to be developed through educational, sectoral, organisational and governmental means. The research shows that the architectural profession is open to introducing new titles to ethical codes and developing solutions under these titles.
