Abstract (EN)

Architecture is a discipline interacting with many disciplines and its relationship with art is undeniable. Space and installation art are existing together in today's architecture. Installation art is to create a three-dimensional artwork for a specific-site indoors or outdoors, in the life of people. Installation art which has emerged in the last few decades as an increasingly diverse practice that invites the viewer to touch, enter and experience the work whether it is in a gallery, on city streets or in the landscape; is a creation of three-dimensional site-specific art works. There is a reciprocal relationship between architecture and art throughout history. This relationship leads to the fact that developments in one field constantly affect the other field. In the twentieth century, expression techniques and image in visual arts have changed and art works that expand into space and time have been made. These spatial organizations –later called installations- included space -is the main occupation of architecture- in art. Installation art, which appeared in the 1960s, is the creation of a small-scale, mostly ephemeral, site-specific and three-dimensional work of art in the life of people that directly relates to the space in which it is located. Installations that question the relationship of the art object with space and the spectator, have established a perceptual relationship with space. With its experiential and questioning qualities installations have become a common practice used by architects in recent years. This artistic expression which deals with space concern architects as much as it concern artists. In this study, the relationship of installation works -used as an architectural practice- with space, its effects on perception of space and its place in architectural practice will be examined through examples. And also, it will examine the place of the installation art in architectural practice its frame, its limits and its including to the space, its specific place to practice and its aim. This study aims to show the importance of installation works in architectural practice by researching the contribution of installation art to architecture discipline.
