Abstract (EN)

Background and Aim: During pregnancy, pregnancy may be terminated due to maternal and fetal reasons. Today, Prostaglandin derivative drugs (misoprostol) are frequently used for cervical maturity and labor induction. It is important to determine the time of use of misoprostol, the indication, or the dose to be used in patients with a history of previous surgery. Our study, the use of Misoprostol (PGE1-Cytotec®) according to the dosage instruction made by FİGO in 2017; examines its results in terms of efficacy, safety and complications. The aim of this study is to retrospectively examine the effectiveness of misoprostol protocols on clink results. Materials and Methods: This study is examined response in Adiyaman University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, between December 2017 and December 2019. The study is a retrospective study of 108 patients who applied to the obstetrics outpatient clinic and services and who were decided to terminate pregnancy in the first and second trimesters due to fetal or maternal is a cross sectional study. The Misoprostol to be used for termination was administered sublingually according to the conditions specified in the FIGO dosage instruction made in 2017. The rate of abortion, demographic results (age, body mass index, gravida, parity), previous obstetric procedures (number of cesarean and curettage), cervical length, and weeks of gestation during termination were noted. The total amount of drugs used for each pregnant woman, the duration of the termination process, and the complications that occurred during and after the drug administration procedure were investigated. Statistical analysis was done using SPSS 24. In comparisons between groups, independent-sample T-test was used for variables with normal distribution, and Mann-Whitney U test was used for variables that were not normally distributed. Statistical significance was set at p <0.05 for all analyzes. Results: The ages of 108 pregnant women included in the study varied between 19-44, and the mean age was 32. Fetal cardiac activity was found to be negative in all cases. Termination occurred in all patients within 1 to 18 hours after misoprostol protocols. When the demographic and clinical properties of the protocols were compared, there was no statistically significant difference between the variables (p> 0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it shows that the misoprostol protocol used in first and second trimester pregnancy termination in our hospital is effective and reliable. Prospective studies in larger human populations are needed to determine the clinical applicability of FIGO's guidelines for misoprostol use. Key words: Misoprostol, missed abortion.
