Folklore elements within the work of Mitat Enç named Uzun Çarşının Uluları

Folklore embraces a wide range of fields as a branch of science which examines the lifestyles, traditions, customs, attitudes and beliefs of peoples in various situations, and their practices during the transition periods, which are the most significant phases of life. Folklore will proceed to develop as the peoples exist. At the same time, new findings on folklore will be attained as historical research improves and results. Elements of folk literature within the Turkish folklore and folklore department have been used in various ways in various works. These works undertake great tasks in demonstrating the way of life of the people and in transferring them to next generations. In his story book called Uzun Çarşının Uluları, Mitat Enç comprehensively mentioned the folk cultures of Gaziantep and its immediate surroundings. Mitat Enç conveys the style of life of the region, the modernization process after the proclamation of the republic, the devotion to the traditions of the people, and their astonishment against modernization in a sincere manner and again in the language of the people. Uzun Çarşının Uluları which can be seen as a collective reflection of the folk culture of that region, has a very rich accumulation of folklore. The purpose of this study is; in a period when folklore elements that can be considered as the memory of the society started to disappear with globalization, it is to determine the use of these elements in the book Uzun Çarşının Uluları. With the help of this research, it will be displayed once again how opulent it is with the instances given over the characters and the ways of using folk literature elements that are evaluated in folklore and folklore, which are placed in a story book.
