Bağdat Governorship of Mithat Paşa and Zevra Newspaper (Between 1st and 50th numbers)

Mithat Pasha, who was appointed as the Governor of Baghdad in 1869 due to his disagreements with the Grand Vizier Ali Pasha, published a provincial newspaper called Zevra in Baghdad. Based on accuracy and being the first newspaper of the province, Zevra was published between 1869-1917 in Turkish and Arabic. While the newspaper was published once a week in the first period of its publication life, it started to be published twice a week as of July 23, 1869. The last issue of the first year of the Zevra Newspaper was the 50th issue, and until the second year, it was sold for seventy cents for one year, forty kurus for six months, and sixty money each copy. As of the 51st issue, when the newspaper started to be published two days a week, the annual subscription fee was increased to one hundred and the six-month subscription fee to fifty-five cents. While Zevra Newspaper was published in Turkish and Arabic until 1908, it caused public reaction when it was published only in Turkish between 1908-1912. Upon this situation, the newspaper started to be published again in Turkish and Arabic. Zevra Newspaper, which is considered the beginning of the Iraqi press history, ended its publication life with the number 2607 on March 1, 1917, when the British occupied Baghdad.
