Northeast Anatolia in 2nd and 1st millennium bc

This study, which deals with the historical ages of Northeast Anatolia, is of particular importance due to the geographical location of the region. The region has been inhabited from the beginning of prehistoric times, especially, during the 2nd and 1st millennia BC, a number of political relations were observed with the two great civilizations of Anatolia, the Hittites and the Urartians. In the middle of the 2nd millennium BC, the kingdom Haiasa was found to have relations with the Hittites. In the first quarter of the first millennium, the kingdom, which had relations with the Urartians, was Diauehi. Light has been shed on the political and cultural activities of the Haiasa Kingdom, whose name we encounter towards the end of the 15th century BC., owing to logs about them in Hittite records. In consideration of such data, it has been discovered that the Haiasaians, expanded their borders and territory of influence according to political relations with the Hittite. This kingdom remained passive from time to time due to northeastern politics pursued consistently by the Hittites, while at times they exploited disorder in the Hittite country and created long-lasting trouble for their powerful enemies. The Diauehi Kingdom that dominated Northeast Anatolia at the beginning of the first millennium BC. was the Diauehi Kingdom in the Urartian records and Dayaeni in the Assyrian records. As soon as the Urartian State was completed, organized various military campaigns against these territories to the north, which enjoyed economic riches and a critical strategic location. The main purpose behind these campaigns against this region, which is generally included within the boundaries of the land of Diauehi, was to capture the important raw material deposits and centers of agricultural and animal husbandry in the north. As understood from these policies pursued, these campaigns were carried out to gain a permanent hold over the region, not simply for the sake of loot. In this study, the relations of both kingdoms with northeastern Anatolia will be discussed in detail and the situation of the region in historical ages will be tried to be revealed.
