Abstract (EN)
In brief, wooden materials have been using for indoors and outdoors decoration and building elements. One of the most important problems in wood finishing has long been that preserving the appearance of natural wood out of doors. Wood is still highly prefered constructional material for tremendous kinds of produce its aesthetically pleasing appearance and also some others structural properties need to be protect against many inside and outside factors. Beyond destructive biological enemies, outdoor exposure causes considerable decomposition on wood surface by time. Sunlight and with the help of seasonal consecutive swelling shrinking and erasional effects of rain and wind. as.such additional factors softens the surface and as a cosequence wood has old appereance. In this study, in order to reveal the weathering effect on wood in Eastern Back Sea region, surface hardness, surface stickness, macroscopic deformation and colour of the scot pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and chesnut (Castanea sativa MilL) Wood were measured in addtion to seasonal weight loss as weathering parameters of untreated and treated specimens, synthetic and polyurethane types surface coatings were applied on wood surface impregnated with either white spirit solutions of both varnish types (%20) include (%1 Parafin vax or Tanalith-CBC ). Seasonal weathering test was conducted on a frame established at an open field by 45 degree vertical angles to the earth level and surface arrenged to the sun rising direction. Initial results obtained for consecutive seasonal indicated that for both wood species polyurethane type varnish perform best in hardness (Scot pine % 100, Chesnut % 85) sole synhetic varnish gave the lowest -hardness in this study (Scocts,pine40 %, Chesnut % 55) On the üfeef- natffi,Temarl£âi^^ followed by Tanalith- CBC treatment of (Scots pine % 150, Chesnut % 85) which showed support of treatment chemical to surface resistance against outdoor factors. Chesnut, appeared in many cases more stable in colour than scots pine after exposure. Therefore, it may be perefered for outdoor use were the colour changes are not tolerated.Key Words: Weathering, Exterior, Wood preservation, Varnish, Surface coating, Treatment, Water repellent, Colour changes, Hardness, Stikness.
