Model wastewater of dairy industry treatment with electrochemical methods

Abstract (EN)

Characterization of wastewater from dairy industry is determined by Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Pollutants such as proteins, carbohydrates and fats are from dairy industry wastewater. High organic pollution load of these pollutants cause a problem in the environment. In this study, treatment of model of the dairy industry wastewater was investigated by using soluble iron and aluminum electrodes by the method of electrocoagulation. Some important experimental parameters which are Current density, support electrolyte and pH effect on COD removal were researched.During these studies of iron electrodes, the best conditions were determined as follows; on i = 15 mA/cm2 and pH = 4.06 , by the addition of 3 mM Na2SO4 and 2000 mg / L H2O2, removal was 78 %.Throughout experimental studies by using aluminum electrodes, the best conditions were determined as follows; on i = 15 mA/cm2, by the addition of 5 mM Na2SO4 and 40 mg / L Kerafloc polyelectrolyte, prepared study was at 80 % removal efficiency has been obtained.While the COD removal efficiency of electrocoagulation and electrooxidation processes by iron and diamond electrodes was 92,5, The COD removal efficiency of electrocoagulation and electrooxidation processes by aluminium and diamond electrodes was 89 %.As a result of experimental studies, the dairy industry wastewater treatment by using of electrochemical methods were successful because of efficient, easy and economical behaviours.Key words: Electrocoagulation, Dairy Industry Model wastewater, COD, Iron, Aluminum.
