The short story in modern moroccan literature and the analysis of Muhammad Zafzâf's "Bâ'i'atu'l-verd" story collection

Morocco, which has been the scene of various policies of colonial regimes since the XIX. century, entered the French protectorate between 1912 and 1956. In this period, while the "El-Nahda Movement", which is called the Arab Renaissance, started in other Arab countries, it is seen that the movement started in Morocco just before the First World War. Moroccan literature has long been influenced by ancient culture and classical Arabic literature, because of the delay in comparison with other Arab countries. Therefore, it has been determined that prose genres such as short stories and novels emerged quite late in Moroccan literature, as in modern Algerian and Tunisian literature, which are from the Maghreb countries. In this study, firstly, the stages of the short story genre from its birth to its development in modern Moroccan literature are mentioned. Then, the life, literary personality and works of Mohammed Zafzâf, one of the most important pioneers of the Moroccan short story, were discussed. Finally, Muhammad Zafzâf's collection of short stories called Bâ'i'atu'l-Verd was analyzed from a technical and thematic point of view.
